Get to Know Parlor Palm!

Highlights

This lovely plant with deep green foliage was first discovered in Central America and brought back to the United States where it immediately became a popular indoor palm. It grows in clumps with light-textured foliage cloaking thin trunks. Parlor palms are slow growers and can take years to reach full height (2 to 6 feet indoors and 6 to 16 feet outdoors).

Watering

Parlor palms are sensitive to overwatering and cannot tolerate being waterlogged or sitting in a saturated potting mix. It is best to opt for less water to avoid overwatering with these palms. Water when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. Yellow fronds will indicate the plant needs more water.

Sunlight

These are considered low-light plants, but that doesn't mean "no-light." Parlor palms will do their best in bright, filtered sunlight. They often do well with northern exposure.

Pet-Friendly?

Parlor palms are non-toxic!

Sad Plant (is your plant dying?)

If your parlor palm is leaning or dying, it might be caused due to lack of watering, low humidity, or even overwatering. Other reasons for a drooping or leaning parlor palm include lack of lighting, pests and diseases, using cold water for watering, wrong temperatures, wrong replanting times or transplanting mistakes.
